Curam Care Homes Raise Funds and Awareness for Denim Day for Dementia

Teddy bears for sale at Curam Care Home to raise funds for Denim Day for Dementia

Staff and residents across Curam Care Homes recently came together to support Denim Day for Dementia, a nationwide fundraising initiative that raises awareness and vital funds for people living with dementia and their families.

Held annually, Denim Day for Dementia encourages individuals, workplaces, schools and communities to wear denim and donate to support dementia services across Ireland. The campaign supports services such as the national helpline, day care programmes and family carer supports provided by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

At Curam, residents and staff embraced the spirit of the day with creativity, energy and plenty of denim!

A Community Fundraiser Led by Residents and Staff

Across our homes, residents worked alongside staff to sell a collection of adorable teddy bears, with all funds raised donated to Denim Day for Dementia. Families, visitors and team members were delighted to support the fundraiser, with many purchasing a bear as a keepsake from the day.

Events like this are an important part of life at Curam Care Homes. They provide residents with opportunities to take part in meaningful activities, stay socially connected and contribute to causes that matter to them.

Each bear has a story

What made the fundraiser particularly special was that each Curam Care Home named their teddy bears.

Residents and staff carefully chose names that held a special meaning within their home. Some bears were named after beloved residents or staff members, while others reflected the personality and spirit of each home.

This simple but thoughtful activity sparked conversations, memories and laughter among residents, creating a lovely sense of ownership and pride in the fundraiser.

A Bake Sale full of homemade goodness

Another highlight of our Denim Day for Dementia fundraising efforts was a wonderful community bake sale, organised across our homes. Residents, staff and family members all got involved by baking a wide selection of delicious treats, from homemade cakes and cupcakes to freshly baked scones, biscuits and traybakes. The tables were filled with tempting goodies, and visitors were delighted to support the cause while enjoying a sweet treat. The bake sale created a warm, welcoming atmosphere within our homes and provided a great opportunity for families and residents to come together. Most importantly, all funds raised from the bake sale were donated to Denim Day for Dementia, supporting vital dementia services across Ireland while showcasing the strong sense of community that families experience when their loved one lives at Curam Care Homes.
